The Spotify Live Events Feed
That green, Swedish little startup is integrating concert notifications AND ticket bookings right into their app.
They’re calling it Spotify Live Events. Their hope is that it will make them more of a one-stop-shop for your music needs. And generate some revenue along the way (of course).
It’s pretty easy to use too.
- Open Up Spotify
- Click on Search (Upper-Left Menu Area)
- Type “Live Events” into the Search textbox
- Click on the Top Results
- The Recommended for you section will show you all your concert results
Things To Keep In Mind
- Spotify concert notifications only seem to appear for events coming in the next 12 months. Which is probably more than enough time to plan. But keep in mind, artists notoriously add shows to their tours when the opportunity (read $$$) arises so a new show might pop up in your events feed when you least expect it.
- The concerts that show up in my feed are the Spotify events near me. Or, I should say, what Spotify *thinks* are near me. You can change the location on the Live Events page to look for events in a wider area. This is also a good way to discover concerts in places you might be visiting or traveling to for business.
- Which artists appear in your “Recommended for you” section of your live events feed will be a function of which artists you “Follow” on Spotify. It’s unclear whether just listening to an artist would be enough for the Spotify algorithm gods to take notice. But your “follows” will definitely be there.
- I have a sneaking suspicion that Spotify won’t list an event if it doesn’t have a ticketing relationship with the venue/artist. But even if I’m right, that shouldn’t be a long-term problem as Spotify is working out deals with anyone who’ll take their phone call.
Artists And Fanbase
All companies want to grow, grow, grow — Spotify’s no exception.
They’re leveraging their two biggest assets to do just that. They know that fans want to listen to their favorite music comfortably at home, etc. But they also want to experience it live. And artists not only want to sell their music but they also want to move concert tickets and merch. The Spotify live events feed is starting to bring that all together.
Of course there’s plenty of room to grow here, but they’re dedicated to making it work. As one of their executives recently said, “we’re focused on a 2030 strategy, not a 2023 strategy.” So they’re thinking big picture and long term. Can the virtual world be far behind?
All they really want to do is rule the music world after all.
