Your Blues News For 2021-03-08

Hey there. So it’s finally happening.

I’m seeing live shows coming back for this Summer and beyond (for real). I’d be jumping for joy except that 2 of my favorite, local clubs have permanently closed.

Also, I think I’ve forgotten how to comport myself in a public setting. (Damn, where did I put those long pants?)

The glass is definitely half-something. I’m just not quite sure what.

Joanna Connor’s new album, “4801 South Indiana Avenue,” is finally out. And it has Joe Bonamassa’s fingerprints all over it.

The production’s strong. The musicianship’s tasty. And Joanna’s Bluesier then ever.

Here’s a video album-taste plus a video playlist of Joanna and Joe describing their sausage-making process. (Way cool stuff.)

The Silent Blues Brother, Curtis Salgado

“We didn’t own a television set and didn’t know anything about Saturday Night Live.” And yet, Blues-Great Curtis Salgado became John Belushi’s Blues Muse.

Read how it all happened in Maggie Goldsmith’s great Interview of Curtis in Forbes. (And check out his brand new album, “Damage Control.”)

About To Make A Splash

When Rivers Meet is gonna make some noise in 2021. They were set to break big in 2020, but, well … Covid.

Here’s this duo’s brand new video for their tune “Walking on the Wire.” (A lotta sound from just 2 Brits.)

Going For The Gold

Love your Chicago Blues? Then you’ll enjoy this livestream.

It’s being presented by Governors State University, celebrating Alligator Record’s golden anniversary in the record biz.

Alligator’s a Blues trailblazer and they’re still going strong – 15 artists with 27 Blues Music Award nominations this year. (Not too shabby for a 50-year old.)

Who Doesn’t Love A Party Bar?

Certainly not me. So getting to one of The Blues Kitchen locations in London has been on my bucket list for some time. But now, I have even more reason to go.

They’re opening up a new, Manchester location and it looks like it will be incredible.

A multi-story restaurant & bar. A 600-seat venue. With bourbon and BBQ? (You had me at “The Blues.”)

Guitar Geeks Only

Just in case you need a little inspiration, Allow me to present, for your examination, the one, the only, Tommy Emmanuel.

Here’s one of Tommy’s past concert videos where he shows exactly why Chet Atkins referred to him as a “Certified Guitar Player.”

By the way, Chet only gave that title to 4 guitarists — ever! (Now pick up your axe and go practice.)
