The Immediate Family - "Slippin' And Slidin'" EP

Hey there. What’s it going to be like when we start going back to live shows?

I’m thinking it will be a little confusing and a whole lot of exciting. Will I remember how to behave myself? Hopefully I’ll have some muscle memory to lean on.

I’m sure it will all come back to me quickly enough. But I’m also pretty sure there’s a better than even chance I’ll tear up as soon as the lights dim and the first rhythm guitar starts up. (Ooooh I’m stoked.)

Imagine This

2021 is going to be the year of the husband-and-wife duo. There are at least half-a-dozen on the scene now that are killing it already.

Case in point: The Imaginaries (Maggie McClure and Shane Henry).

These two have their debut album coming out on March 26th and it should be a Bluesy, Rootsy good one. Here’s a video taste of what they can do. (Tell me if I’m wrong.)

Summer Camp For The Blues

“Describing himself as ‘the first blues kid,’ Jones recalled that, as a youngster on Chicago’s South Side, it was difficult to find other budding blues artists.”

And so in 2010, Fernando Jones started up his very own Summer Blues Camp in Chicago for kids 12 to 18. Boy, it looks like fun.

Now Fernando’s taking it online. And you can find out more in this great article by Phillip Lutz in Downbeat: A Blues Camp Rite of Summer. (You know, when I went to Summer Camp, all I did was knit a potholder.)

Taking Solo To The Next Level

When Covid hit the music world, many artists turned online to continue practicing their craft. But Ghalia Volt had another idea.

Ghalia decided she could be her own rhythm section as well as play guitar and sing. The idea worked so well, it turned into her latest album, “One Woman Band.”

Here she is playing and stomping her way through one of her original tunes, “Reap What You Sow.”

Unboxing A Beaut

Here’s an the very first unboxing of an eye-catching guitar. It’s the brand new Schecter PT Van Nuys.

Darrel Braun shows off a lot of delectable guitars on his channel. But I have to say this one looks almost too pretty to play.

Still, I’ll bet you could coax some sweet-sounding Blues out of it. (It lists for $899.)

I’ll Leave You With: Some Junior and Buddy

What were you doing in 1974? Well, Junior Wells and Buddy Guy were cookin’ at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

The Blues was more of an appetizer at the “Jazz” festival but Junior and Buddy were pretty much a full meal and then some.

Here’s Junior’s classic “Hoodoo Man Blues,” perfectly prepared and served to taste.
