Hey there. This week, let’s get back to basics. New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers basics that is.
In 2007 some good old musician friends got together in the studio and sat around in a circle with a set list. They started the tape rolling and just played. What came out was a of couple hours of great Blues.
But the session tapes sat around until Stony Plain Records founder, Holger Petersen discovered them in 2019. He knew what he had though, as soon as he heard them. Fast forward a bit and here we are with Vol. 2.
When you listen, you can hear some of the chatter during the session. And if you close your eyes you can almost see these guys jamming with each other. Having a blast.
This is good-time music folks. If you walked past a bar and heard these sounds wafting out the door, you’d stroll right in. Then you’d order yourself a drink, and just bob your head side-to-side with a big smile on your face until last call.
So take a listen. And don’t miss Vol. 1 either.

A Life With Tempo
I’m always fascinated by the musical odyssey of great musicians. Jimi Bott, the 20-time BMA Percussionist of the Year Nominee is a great cast in point.
He made up his mind in Junior High to live a life behind a drum kit. And he worked hard to achieve exactly that. Stints in The Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Mannish Boys, and now The Proven Ones speak to how that hard work paid off.
You can feel what it was like to travel that road with Jimi by reading this featured interview in BluesBlastMagazine.

Baking Up A Blues Biscuit
Good news for all you Blues Bakers out there. The King Biscuit Blues Festival is returning to Helena, Arkansas this October.
The 3-day festival, which has been going on for 35+ years, was virtual last year – like so many others. But now there’s a whole bunch of optimism for a whole bunch of Blues. More info.
Here’s hoping that by this Fall we won’t even remember how to spell the word pandemic. (Pass the biscuits please.)

I’ll Leave You With: Some Larkin Poe With Joe Bonamassa
Here’s a little video of Larkin Poe jamming with Joe B. and band on the 2019 Keeping The Blues Alive Cruise. They’re playing their way through “Spoonful.”
I’ve never made it to one of these cruises. But I’m sure they’re a lot of fun. Heck, they must be; the 2022 Cruise is already sold out.
Ahhh, the Blues and an ocean breeze. Is there a better way to spend the evening? (Hey, I think I’ve seen that keyboard player somewhere before.)
