It began 50 years ago – Bruce Iglauer wanted his boss, the late Bob Koester from Delmark Records, to release music from Hound Dog Taylor and the Houserockers. Bob Koester declined. Bruce Iglauer decided to strike out on his own, and Alligator Records was born.

This vintage video is Sonny Boy Williamson (II) playing one of his own tunes, “I’m A Lonely Man.” This performance was probably sometime in the early 1960’s as part of one of the American Folk Blues Festival tours in Europe. (The Blues doesn’t get more classic than this.)
