Albert Cummings looks tan, rested, and ready! He’s back on the charts with a new album (Ten) and he’s back on the road, Blues Rockin’ his way across the country. Here’s the evidence – his very first video from the new album. (Missed me some Albert I did.)

Sister Act: The Catalyst Interview With Blues Fest Headliners Larkin Poe
STPETECATALYST.COM

Nice article on Larkin Poe (sisters Rebecca & Megan Lovell). This duo is pretty much killin’ it on the Blues/Rock scene nowadays. They’ve got a distinct roots-based sound for sure. And here you get to peek behind the curtain and see what their influences are and how they keep things fresh.

Exceptional album, this one. Admittedly, I have an Albert Cummings bias, but he really soars on this record. Let’s call it genre-fluid since Albert mixes it up a bit. But that guitar and those heart-felt vocals still shine through. Even better, his songwriting dazzles. (Me likey!)

Fantastic Negrito – “Trudoo”

Fantastic Negrito continues to push the limits of Blues and Roots music with this video from his upcoming “visual” album, White Jesus Black Problems. He puts so many different influences into each of his songs, he’s impossible to really categorize. His videos are NO different. (An acquired taste, but can 3 Grammys be wrong?)

Robben Ford: “Tone Has Always Been Number One To Me”
GUITARWORLD.COM

A revered guitarist who has played for legends such as Miles Davis and Joni Mitchell, and created a series of brilliant solo albums, Robben Ford sits down to share his wisdom. (The sound he pulls out of his guitar(s) is amazing.)

The Wildroots – Wildroots Sessions, Vol. 2
WILDROOTSRECORDS.COM

This album plays more like an all-star concert than a single band’s album. But I guess that’s The Wildroots in a nutshell – more than a couple dozen musicians went into this record and they’re all super. Great variety from Blues Rock to Old-School. Last year’s Vol. 1 was terrific, Vol. 2 is even better.

I dug this video. And not just because the sisters Lovell (Larkin Poe) are in it. (Hmmm, let’s just say that didn’t hurt.) But the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band does this Bob Dylan 60’s tune up proud and proper. This is a great cover. (The great songs never seem to age.)

Beth Hart – Courage To Be Uncomfortable
BLUESBLASTMAGAZINE.COM

Beth Hart is a complicated lady. Thoughtful, artistic, passionate, pragmatic, and more. And if you’ve ever seen her perform, you’ve seen it all in every song. She brought it all to her latest (“Zeppelin Album”) and she brought it all to this deep-dive interview too.

Now something from the Roots page of our musical menu, The Weight Band’s new album. These guys have legitimate musical linkage back to the The Band (and you’ll hear it here). But their music stands on its own. They sound great. (A really enjoyable listen.)
