Strongman Blues Remedy – “I Like To Ride” (Feat. Harrison Kennedy)
YOUTUBE.COM
Steve Strongman, with a little help from Harrison Kennedy (pictured), makes it very clear in this video just what they like to do most. Ride! Steve and Harrison are both Canadian Bluesmen with the requisite mantel of Blues awards, so they know what they’re talkin’ about.
Sass Jordan – Bitches Blues
SASSJORDAN.COM
Sass Jordan’s new album (Bitches Blues) is a tease. Just 8 songs and 27 minutes of that sexy, growly voice of hers doesn’t seem like enough. She and her band are in complete command over every single note of this music. It’s Bluesy, it’s expressive, and I just didn’t want it to end.
Chris Antonik – “Waves of Stone” (Feat. Jarekus Singleton)
YOUTUBE.COM
A little dose of some straight-ahead Blues Rock from Chris Antonik. It’s got a touch of a Strawberry Fields Forever vibe too – just for flavor. Chris is another Canadian Bluesman (we seem to be thick with them this week). And his new album Morningstar is due out in August.
Fantastic Negrito – Black Jesus White Problems
FANTASTICNEGRITO.COM
Three-time Grammy winner Fantastic Negrito’s albums always deserve a look & listen. But is this new one Blues? Uhhhh, No! It’s a mix of every ingredient in his musical kitchen. All in service to an album based around his interracial heritage. But it’s also THE most interesting album I’ve heard this year.
Vinyl Sales Surge For 15th Straight Year!
MC-RECORDS.COM
Compared to some of my friends, I’m a tiny vinyl collector. But I’m proud to be a small but active contributor to the continued vinyl sales surge that’s happening in the music business. There’s just something about holding an old Blues album in my hands that feels good. Anyway, read all about it in this great article from Mike O’Cull.
Charlie Musselwhite – Mississippi Son
YOUTUBE.COM
The harmonica takes a backseat in Charlie Musselwhite’s new release (Mississippi Son) in favor of Charlie’s guitar and voice. And what we get is a Blues treat. A glimpse of what it was like to sit in a little club and listen (really listen) to an original Bluesman. This is Charlie’s homage to the music he cut his teeth on. (So simple it’ll never die.)
Marcus King – “Hard Working Man”
YOUTUBE.COM
His next album (Young Blood) isn’t out until August, but Marcus King is hard at work putting in those Blues Dues. Right about now he’s in Europe touring. And in July he’ll be back to cover the US. I guess you could say he’s a “Hard Working Man.” (Hmmm, sounds like a good title for a video.)
Various Artists – Rough Guide to Slide Guitar Blues
WORLDMUSIC.NET
Some Blues Archeology here from World Music Network. They assemble music from the way-back machine – and here that means 25 slide guitar Blues artists. The sonics crackle a bit and some of the artists may be unknown to you. But they were Blues foundation builders. (It’s good to touch base with your roots now and again.)
