Joanne Shaw Taylor – ‘Blues From The Heart Live’
JBONAMASSA.COM.COM
The latest from Joanne Shaw Taylor is a live album/concert DVD. (DVD review on the website mañana.) I love live albums – when they’re done right. And this one does not disappoint. It’s 16 tunes of strong, well-paced, Blues Rock that sticks the launch and the landing. Joanne can play and sing with anybody – and proves it here. (A great listen.)
Hog Branch – “Careless Love”
YOUTUBE.COM
New group, classic song. Here’s Hog Branch covering the timeless, “Careless Love.” This tune’s been covered by everyone; from Blind Boy Fuller to Ally Venable. And the fellas here do a nice job (very nice sax solo). This will be on their debut album due out soon. (Always like the studio video vibe.)
Eric Gales Teaches Blues Guitar
YOUSICPLAY.COM
Later this month, yousicplay.com will launch a Blues Guitar course taught by Eric Gales. 2+ hours of videos that will cover Eric’s technique, his musical vocabulary, and how he approaches the Blues. I’m guessing if you’re a beginner, this might be a bit much. But if you’ve got some Blues chops in your pocket, this might be very cool. (Pre-order for $99.)

Fantastic Negrito – “Nibbadip”
YOUTUBE.COM
Fantastic Negrito is one of the freshest artists on the scene today. My brain boggles a bit when I consider that he’s now been *fresh* for the last 5 years or so. This video (“Nibbadip”) is from his latest album Black Jesus White Problems and, once again, he’s gonna push musical boundaries in all kinds of directions.
Bonnie Raitt, Blues Sister: Her Life And Times In Eight Songs
STEREOPHILE.COM
This is a VERY interesting Bonnie Raitt interview. Tony Scherman (of Stereophile.com) takes 8 songs from Bonnie’s long career (chronologically) and digs into each one. The result is a deep dive into each tune and what was going on in Bonnie’s life at that time. Tony pulls out details most interviews barely scratch at. (Damn nice job.)
Catfish – ‘Bound For Better Days – EP’
CATFISHBLUESBAND.CO.UK
This Brit Blues Rock group’s been turning heads for a few years now. Catfish is their name and the band has some great musical chemistry – they’re led by a father/son duo who share vocals and writing. This record’s a 5-song, acoustic-driven EP that serves as an appetizer. (The 1st tune, “Broken Man,” is worth the price of admission all by itself.)
