Steve Strongman – ‘The Strongman Blues Remedy Volume 1’
STEVESTRONGMAN.COM
When is a debut album NOT a debut album? Well, when most of the players already have JUNO and Maple Blues Awards under their belts – that’s when. This group (The Strongman Blues Remedy) is jam-packed with talent. And that talent comes through on all 10 original tunes on this record. It’s good medicine. (Definitely deserves a listen.)
Robert Finley – “Souled Out On You”
YOUTUBE.COM
Robert Finley released his debut album in 2016, when he was 62 years-old. A story in perseverance? Probably. But the man sings with a gravitas that younger dudes can only dream of. Here he is in a studio setting, singing “Souled Out On You,” from his most recent album Sharecropper’s Son.
Eric Gales Interview Part 2: Technique & Influences
YOUTUBE.COM
A lot of stuff in this Eric Gales video interview. The 3 key takeaways for guitarists? 1, Eric did a LOT of woodshedding to get as good as he is. 2, Eric focused on what inspired him. 3, he never gave up. It didn’t matter that he learned everything left-handed, upside-down, and backwards, he just kept going. (Good advice for a lot of things.)
Just A Reminder…All Music Schools Are NOT The Same.
Hank Williams Jr. – ‘Rich White Honky Blues’
HANKJR.COM
How to describe this album. Hmmm, rough, rugged, and raunchy should do it. This is soooo Hank Williams Jr. (aka “Thunderhead Hawkins”). Classic Hill Country Blues with a few of Hank’s originals. And he dominates every one of ’em. It’s got a live, greasy, one-take feel to it and should come with an “R” rating for Hank’s language. (Don’t hate me, but I liked it.)
Joanne Shaw Taylor – “Summertime” (Live) – Featuring Joe Bonamassa
YOUTUBE.COM
This little slice is a clip from Joanne Shaw Taylor’s concert DVD. It’s her rendition of “Summertime,” the George Gershwin standard. You can tell from this video that the concert is terrific. And of course, it doesn’t hurt that she’s got a great guest star or two to help out.
Peter Green: The Superstar With The Human Touch Who Sent Fleetwood Mac Into Orbit
LOUDERSOUND.COM
This is a *very* deep dive into a slice of Peter Green’s musical career. Not as famous as some other Blues guitarists but highly respected by anyone who knows a thing or two. This article covers the Bluesbreakers and Fleetwood Mac periods in his career.
The Rock House All Stars – ‘Let It Bleed Revisited – An Ovation From Nashville’
BANDCAMP.COM
What do we have here? A re-creation of The Stones terrific album, Let It Bleed – by The Rock House All Stars. A group of Nashville pros out of the Rock House studio in Franklin Tennessee. They’ve got that loosey, greasy feel down pat. It reminds me of how Blues-Rocky Jagger & Richards songwriting was back in ’69. (It’s a lot of fun.)
