Yeah, Supersonic Blues Machine is a power trio alright. But with 8 guest stars and seemingly a choir of backup singers, this album’s much bigger than just 3 guys. This music is razor-sharp. It commands your attention. And it doesn’t disappoint. It’s Blues-Rock (heavy on the Rock) with great performances and great writing. (Definitely worth a listen.)

Kirk Fletcher turns on the R&B jets for this video – “Afraid To Die, Too Scared To Live.” A little film-noir story – Kirk’s first tease from his solo-album Heartache by the Pound coming out later next month. The video ends with a Kirk-trademark solo that sounds like it could go on and on and on.

Harrison Kennedy – ‘Thanks For Tomorrow’

There’s something to be said for hitting 80 years-old and simultaneously doing the best work of your career. Harrison Kennedy’s hitting both of those milestones with his new album Thanks For Tomorrow. He’s touching a lot of Blues stylistic boxes here, plus he wrote 11 of the 12 songs. And his vocals are as sharp as ever. (This is a fun album.)

Blues Legend, Buddy Guy On His Incredible Life Story And The Future of Blues

What a great video interview with Buddy Guy! Here are some stories you probably haven’t heard before. Mitch Gallagher from Sweetwater employs that little-used interviewing technique of asking a question and then…letting Buddy just talk. As the saying goes, Buddy’s forgotten more than most of us will ever know. (Great stuff.)

Clubs are making a comeback and it’s good to see Chicago’s Kingston Mines is one of them. This is a 50-year, family-run business folks. And it just oozes the Blues. Tom Barnas shows you everything you’ll ever need to know about the joint in this video. And I’m betting you’ll add KM to your bucket list when he’s done. (If you haven’t been there already.)

The question is: when you listen to Janiva Magness’s new album will you be struck more by her vocals, or by the lyrics? Might be a toss up. Both resonate well past the 49 minute playing time on the record. That’s because she’s in great voice on this one and she makes every song feel like a personal statement. (I dug it a bunch.)
