ZZ Top – ‘Raw’ (That Little Ol’ Band From Texas Original Soundtrack)
ZZTOP.COM

What’s this, a live ZZ Top album with no audience? Cool. Recorded in 2019 for their Netflix documentary, it was meant to be a glimpse into the band’s early days. But it’s much more. It’s one terrific record. Suffice it to say that if you wanted to hear ZZ, at their best & playing their best music, this is the album for you. (Definitely worth a listen.)

Here’s a little backstage rehearsal from Tedeschi Trucks Band. It’s for “Tell The Truth.” TTB has a habit of setting up small rehearsal spaces at gigs in order to run through tunes. With a performance list of over 100 songs, sometimes you just need a quick refresher. (Oh, the glamorous life on the road.)

Why Howlin’ Wolf’s Landmark ‘Rockin’ Chair Album’ Remains One Of The Greatest Blues Records Of All Time
GUITARPLAYER.COM

This article, by Jim Campilongo, is a callback to one of the defining Blues albums of the 1960’s – Howlin’ Wolf’s Howlin’ Wolf. It’s a compilation of earlier released singles so each song is strong, pick-of-the-litter type stuff. And then there’s Mr. Wolf’s voice – unmistakable. (Blues collector’s item material folks.)

Dylan Triplett – ‘Who Is He?’

21-year-old’s aren’t supposed to have this much confidence. Or for that matter, the audacity to tackle Bill Withers, Miles Davis, and their own original tunes in a debut album no less. But Dylan Triplett does. And he pulls it off too. There’s a tonnage of talent here and I’m thinkin’ he’s one to watch.

Emanuel Casablanca will be dropping his debut album in a few weeks – Blood On My Hands. And now he’s released a new video — “Bloodshot Eyes.” He’s a Brooklyn native, but his music sounds like it comes from a place a lot farther south. This tune’s got a pounding pulse and a promise of good things to come.

On The Road With Award-Winning Singer, Shemekia Copeland

“If you’re not hopeful, you’re going to be a pretty miserable person.” That quote pretty much encapsulates Shemekia Copeland’s life and work. There have been ups and downs (especially the last 2 years) for this BMA Award Winner, but she’s keeping a positive fix on the horizon. (A nice little interview.)

The Derek Trucks Interview

Heavy on the Tedeschi Trucks this week, but this is a charming interview with Derek Trucks. A lot of behind-the-scenes info comes out as (the great) Rick Beato asks the questions. You get a good idea of the work that goes into being a “workin’ band.” (Really good stuff.)
