Ally Venable – ‘Real Gone’
APPLE MUSIC
By now it’s a given that Ally Venable can make her guitar soar with the best of ’em. But on this album, her voice does too! (Thank you master producer Tom Hambridge.) The songs cross genres so this record might produce that crossover hit that’ll shoot Ally into the bigger spotlight. The sky’s the limit for this one. She’s got the goods. [PREVIEW]
Joe Bonamassa – “Time Clocks” Live
YOUTUBE
We’re a couple weeks away from the CD/DVD drop of Joe Bonamassa’s live performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. So this video’s a little droplet to get us by until then. Joe’s shows are always high-octane affairs and Red Rocks is the perfect setting for him. This is gonna be good. [VIDEO]
“Tommy Castro Interview”
CHICAGOBLUESGUIDE
Tommy Castro was the big winner at the recent Blues Foundation Awards. He’s now a 3-time Entertainer of the Year winner! It’s well deserved too, because he’s a great musician and storyteller. Here’s a little dive into what makes Tommy tick. [ARTICLE]
Misty Blues – “Granville T.”
YOUTUBE
New England’s Misty Blues’ new album arrives next week. So the band set up shop at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art for this video about a “rollercoaster man.” That’s a ridable sculpture in the background. (Psst…the song’s titled after Granville T. Woods – inventor/builder of several streetcar devices.) [VIDEO]
Eric Bibb – ‘Ridin”
APPLE MUSIC
This is an intimate album. The instrumentation is graceful and elegant, and Eric Bibb’s vocals come across like a private conversation. He’s very good at making music out of serious themes and several of these songs will leave a mark long after the final notes stop ringing. [PREVIEW]
The Terraplanes Blues Band – “My Malaise”
YOUTUBE
The Terraplanes Blues Band started as a duo in 2013. Today, they’re a quintet making a name for themselves in their native UK. This video was shot in a tiny pub, inside a “cruising club” (i.e cargo barge) in Bristol. The music’s tight, and so are the quarters. These guys look like they’d be fun to hang out with. (Love the barman.) [VIDEO]
Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown – ‘Dirty Work (EP)’
APPLE MUSIC
Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown have their own unmistakeable sound. They cook up that Americana+Blues+Rock stew better than just about anyone on the scene right now. And this little EP (20 minutes) is a musical muscle-flex of their talent. I found a lot to like but it went by so fast! [PREVIEW]
