Samantha Fish & Jesse Dayton – ‘Death Wish Blues’
APPLE MUSIC
As collaborations go, the Samantha Fish & Jesse Dayton version hits big! Their 12-tune album starts out hot and bakes and cooks its way to the end. I found myself thinking that every one of these tunes would be terrific in a live show. So many influences – balanced so well. One plus one equals a whole lot more than two on this record. (Definitely worth a listen.) [PREVIEW]
Larkin Poe – “Killing Me Softly”
YOUTUBE
Yep. I know. This isn’t straight Blues. But I just had to post this video of Larkin Poe covering Roberta Flack’s hit, “Killing Me Softly.” If for no other reason than to show how damn talented this sister duo is. They can sing just about anything and make it their own. And you’re missing out if you haven’t tuned into their music. [VIDEO]
Andreas Diehlmann Band – ‘Long Way To Go’
APPLE MUSIC
Here’s a German power trio I just bumped into, the Andreas Diehlmann Band. They play no-nonsense Blues Rock and they’re gooood! Andreas’ guitar work stands out (big-time) and that raspy voice of his fits right in with the Blues. These guys definitely know what they’re doing. [PREVIEW]
Ana Popovic – ‘Power’
APPLE MUSIC
My first thought was, “this album is very slick.” Yeah, Ana Popovic is leaning into her Pop side on this one. Backing off the guitar and the Blues feel and leaning into the backup singers and the Jazz/Soul feel. It’s upbeat, satin-smooth, and even made me feel like dancing. (Hah.) [PREVIEW]
Joe Bonamassa – “I Want To Shout About It”
YOUTUBE
The man just can’t sit still. His 26th #1 album (and video concert) is barely out of the box and yet Joe Bonamassa’s somehow finding a way to tour and produce another album in the coming months. This is one of the tunes from that upcoming album, a Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters tune. So methinks Joe might have a little boogie planned for us this fall. [VIDEO]
Gráinne Duffy – ‘Dirt Woman Blues’
APPLE MUSIC
Irish artist Gráinne Duffy refuses to be pinned down. Her new album is a continuation of her musical evolution. Which is to say she takes control of her Blues and Roots (and Irish) influences and molds them into another personal record – a good one too. She writes and records songs that move her. And you just gotta love her musical integrity. [PREVIEW]
