Ole Lonesome – ‘Tejas Motel’
APPLE MUSIC
When I first read the band’s name (Ole Lonesome) I thought, “gotta be from Texas.” Well, I got that one right. And the band’s debut album on Gulf Coast Records get’s it right too. It’s band-written original material and all of the tunes snap together seamlessly. This is a full meal of weighty Blues-Rock. (Definitely worth a listen). [PREVIEW]
Ghost Hounds – “Last Train To Nowhere”
YOUTUBE
That’s the wicked-good lead singer from Ghost Hounds right there – Tré Nation. He’s leaning into their latest video for their upcoming ‘First Last Time’ album due July 28th. This band’s music takes no prisoners and I’m expecting this next record to be outstanding. [VIDEO]
Living Blues Magazine – 30th Annual Living Blues Awards
LIVINGBLUES
Living Blues Magazine was America’s first Blues publication – it can trace its roots back to 1970. The awards themselves have a critic and a fan component and they bend in the direction of the traditional side of Blues. If you bend in that same direction, you’ll find a lot of talent and tunes to enjoy in this list. [ARTICLE]
Dan Auerbach – “Every Chance I Get (I Want You In The Flesh)”
YOUTUBE
So Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) is putting together a Blues anthology album due August 11th. I’m gonna describe it as an eclectic mix of musicians and music. But what I’ve heard so far is tantalizing. And, speaking of eclectic, here’s Dan’s latest video for that album. The lad certainly has a knack with videos. [VIDEO]
The Nick Moss Band (feat. Dennis Gruenling) – ‘Get Your Back Into It’
APPLE MUSIC
The album cover on the new Nick Moss/Dennis Gruenling record evokes a dance party. Sure enough, the music starts and that’s exactly where you find yourself. These guys are legit keepers of the Chicago Blues flame, with the road-miles and awards to prove it. Great guitar from Nick, wonderful harp from Dennis, and a contemporary feel for the Chicago style that squeezes all the notes just right. [PREVIEW]
Ryan Curtis – “Can’t Take Back”
YOUTUBE
Country Blues with a side of psychedelia? Yeah, let’s go with that. Ryan Curtis is catching a groove on this single from his new album ‘Ain’t Ever Easy.’ The album’s Country through-and-through, but this tune caught my ear. Of course the 60’s light show didn’t hurt. [VIDEO]
