The Hitman Blues Band – ‘Hey, Can You Guys Play…’
APPLE MUSIC
The album title reads, “The Hitman Blues Band versions of great songs.” So we get a record of “covers.” Some are from previous HBB albums while others I suspect are live show favorites. But this is a band of great players. And they frame every tune with an original arrangement so each tune sounds firm & fresh. This album was a bullseye for me. [PREVIEW]
Joe Bonamassa – “Well, I Done Got Over It”
YOUTUBE
I know it says Joe Bonamassa in the title, but that’s Robert Jon Burrison’s pic (Robert Jon & The Wreck). He’s starring in this little video. Is it a heist, a buddy-flick, or film noire? I honestly haven’t a clue. But the number is an old Guitar Slim tune that’s gonna be on Joe’s upcoming ‘Blues Deluxe Vol. 2’ album. So enjoy and come up with your own movie review. [VIDEO]
“Tom Hambridge Article – Spinning Blues Into Gold!”
BLUESBLASTMAGAZINE
“My training really was just my ears – listening and just creating stuff…” Tom Hambridge makes it sound simple and for the greats, it always is. He’s a writing and producing legend in the music world. But he’s also a great musician. He’s worked with literally everyone and his projects are almost guaranteed hits. Here’s a deep-dive into a Blues star you may not know. [ARTICLE]
Elles Bailey – “Devil Claims His Prize”
YOUTUBE
One of my favorite singers (Elles Bailey) has been messing around in the studio again. This time with one of her original tunes. I like these kinds of videos – the ones that look like they were recorded in someone’s basement studio. Maybe, Elles is working on a new album? Hope so, cause I’d like one of those too. [VIDEO]
Greyhound’s Washboard Band – ‘Street Corner Blues’
APPLE MUSIC
Greyhound’s Washboard Band is a trio of traditionalists. They won the German Blues Challenge in 2017 and came within a schnitzel of winning the whole IBC in 2018. They give us resonator, harp, and (oh yeah) plenty of washboard. Most of the songs are originals but, excepting the lyrics, you can almost imagine hearing them on a 1960’s Chicago street corner. This album grew on me pretty fast. [PREVIEW]
Lance Lopez – “Uncivil War”
YOUTUBE
This latest video from Lance Lopez sits in service to his new album, ‘Trouble Is Good.’ I’d call that album, “Blues-Rock knocking on Heavy Metal’s door.” And this tune checks the power ballad box – a good choice for the emotional lyrics. Lance can “bring it,” both with his voice and his guitar. After a 5-year absence it’s nice to have him back. [VIDEO]
