Robert Jon & The Wreck – ‘Ride Into The Light’
APPLE MUSIC
Not a Blues album per se, but Robert Jon & The Wreck’s latest record is just too damn good to pass up. Is there another band out there that can stack 8 great, original tunes together into one album? Like this? I’m scratching my head right now. This is Southern (California) Rock at its primo best folks! And this band’s “up-and-coming” days are over – they’ve arrived. (Definitely worth a listen.) Ghost Hounds – “Last Train To Nowhere”
YOUTUBE
Here’s a great song, storyboarded into a fab video from Ghost Hounds. A mini-movie actually, heavy on the production values. This group is high-flying and high-caliber so I’m not surprised. These guys have great musical chemistry, a terrific new album, and all the lights are green. [VIDEO]
“A Brief History Of The Harmonica”
WHYNOW
In my mind, the harmonica will be forever linked to the Blues. But this humble, pocket-sized instrument has been around for a long time. Its birthdate stretches back to around 1100 B.C. So in this article, Teddy Coward has stitched together the instrument’s full evolution. With a little extra love for the Blues years. Nice read. (Thanks Teddy.) [ARTICLE]
Bobby Rush – “You’re Gonna Need A Man Like Me”
YOUTUBE
Bobby Rush is in fine form on this little number. But then again, he’s been in fine form since the 1950’s – a couple Grammys and several BMAs attest to that. Bobby’s style cuts to the heart of every song, no filler. I especially love the lean harmonica work in this one. Bobby knows when enough is enough. (New album due the 18th.) [VIDEO]
Chickenbone Slim – ‘Damn Good And Ready’
APPLE MUSIC
Chickenbone Slim (AKA Larry Teves) has put together a tasty smorgasbord of Blues influences on his latest album. There’s something for everyone on this record. And it’s all original material that somehow sounds vintage. Let’s call it Blues-Pop and enjoy – especially the excellent guitar work from BMA Award Winner Laura Chavez. (Me Likey.) [PREVIEW]
Eric Johanson – “Undertow”
YOUTUBE
Boosting his brand new album (‘The Deep And The Dirty’), Eric Johanson is taking us for a little tour with this video. He’s either giving us a glimpse of the dark side of town or it’s something more metaphorical. Either way, Eric delivers a great tune and as usual some sizable guitar chops (which he makes look so easy). [VIDEO]
