Coco Montoya – ‘Writing On The Wall’
APPLE MUSIC
Coco Montoya’s music mentors (Albert King & John Mayall) saw something special in Coco. When you play this album, you will too. His unvarnished vocals and his “less is always more” guitar work make every song pop out of your speakers. And the songs themselves are cracking good. Coco soars on this one! (Definitely worth a listen.) [PREVIEW]
The BluesBones – “On The Road Ahead”
YOUTUBE
Here’s one of my favorite Euro Blues bands, The BluesBones, performing at the Brasov Jazz & Blues Festival in Romania. I love their sound (especially Nico’s vocals). I also love the fact that the city fathers just close down the council square for music. (Plus…nobody had to bring their own chairs.) [VIDEO]
“Some Collected Words Of Wisdom From B.B. King Himself”
GUITARPLAYER
“I believe your sound comes from within you. You can manufacture a sound by having a wah-wah pedal or something, but the actual sound comes from you.” This, and more dollups of music wisdom from B.B. King are on display in this tasty little article from Michael Molenda over at GuitarPlayer. Who could possibly have better advice? [ARTICLE]
Blackburn Brothers – ‘SoulFunkn’BLUES’
APPLE MUSIC
The album title tells the story here my friends. Blackburn Brothers have got their own brand of Blues goin’ on. It’s buttered with Soul and sprinkled with Funk. And it goes down easy! These real-life brothers have a slew of Maple Blues Award notices on their shelves and they’re making some great music. I love the groove, plus their cover of The Neville Brothers’ “Sister Rosa” is a special shout-out. [PREVIEW]
Blues Traveler – “Groove Me”
YOUTUBE
This is a great cover of a King Floyd tune from the 70’s by Blues Traveler. Their new album (‘Traveler’s Soul’) isn’t out until October so they’re spoon feeding us a new tune here and there. I think they’re making some of the best music of their career right now and I’m gonna gobble up their album as soon as it drops. (Sock it to me Mr. Popper.) [VIDEO]
Albany Down – ‘Born In The Ashes’
APPLE MUSIC
Some Blues-Rock here (heavy on the Rock) from Albany Down. This UK trio makes a pretty big sound on this record – they bring in some horns, strings, & great backup vocals too. But they fit it all together well. This is some sharp, high-caliber stuff. Plus, they know how to write a hook or two. (Me likey.) [PREVIEW]
