Joyann Parker – ‘Roots’
APPLE MUSIC
One of my favorite singers, Joyann Parker has dropped a formidable, genre-bender of an album. I expected her vocals to be stellar (oh, and they are) but her songwriting knocked me out too. She’s got several stories to tell and I just had to pay attention to all of them. Joyann’s a Midwestern treasure…time to go “nationwide.” (Definitely worth a listen.) [PREVIEW]
Marc Broussard – “When Will I Let Her Go”
YOUTUBE
Marc Broussard’s current album (‘S.O.S. 4: Blues For The Soul’) is filled with great Bluesy, soulful tunes. This video shows off the one original song Marc penned for the record. But if you didn’t know that, you’d think it was a juicy cover of some past hit. Marc’s voice can do that to just about any tune. [VIDEO]
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers – ‘Live in 1967 Volume 3’
APPLE MUSIC
A collector’s item here. It’s John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers’ final release of performances from 1967. It’s a collector’s item because the band included Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, & John McVie (before they left to start that “other band” of theirs). They weren’t Bluesbreakers for very long but they made their mark. Be forewarned though. The album was created from essentially a fan’s bootleg so the sonics are low-grade. (But I don’t think history will mind.) [PREVIEW]
Ghost Hounds – “Last Train To Nowhere” (Behind The Scenes)
YOUTUBE
We’ve got a meta, behind-the-scenes video from Ghost Hounds here. All of the cameras, cables, and crew that go into making a high quality music flick are on display. The process looks a little daunting (not to mention expensive). But these guys are high-flyers now – so they’re worth it. (Great tune too.) [VIDEO]
Popa Chubby – ‘Live At G. Bluey’s Juke Joint N.Y.C.’
APPLE MUSIC
Is it just me, or does Popa Chubby seem to have more fun playing than just about anybody? It sure sounds like it here on his latest live album. This one’s a healthy helping too – double CD, 19 tracks, over 2 hours of music. So there’s a lot of fun for all of us. Extended cuts and lots of Popa’s virtuoso guitar. (Me Likey.) [PREVIEW]
Joyann Parker – “Roots”
YOUTUBE
A double-dose of Joyann Parker this week, just in case you needed some convincing. A creative little video that tells the song’s story really well, under the cover of Joyann’s great voice. I’m also digging the backup quintet of Blues “padres.” [VIDEO]
