This Week…
Robert Finley – ‘Black Bayou’
APPLE MUSIC
Robert Finley’s partnership with Dan Auerbach and his Easy Eye Sound label has sure been fruitful. Their latest collaboration is another hit I think. We get Robert’s raw, gravelly, soulful, voice. And we also get more pieces of the man himself in each tune. Robert has a way of owning everything he sings. (Definitely worth a listen.) [PREVIEW]
Matt Andersen – “Ain’t No Sunshine”
YOUTUBE
You take a big musical risk when you tackle Bill Wither’s “Ain’t No Sunshine.” But then again, when you’ve got the vocal firepower that Matt Andersen has, the odds of success are in your favor. Matt pours everything into this live performance of the classic – and I mean everything! [VIDEO]
Eric B. Turner – ‘It Ain’t Easy’
APPLE MUSIC
Eric B. Turner’s been entertaining folks for a while now – on Broadway and in an iteration of The Drifters. But this, his first album, is a coming out party of sorts. The man has the vocal and emotional range to sing anything. And this album is people’s exhibit number 1. This record is a vocal tour de force. (Me Likey.) [PREVIEW]
The Reverend Shawn Amos – “Revelation”
YOUTUBE
We’ll have to wait until 2024 for the next album from The Reverend Shawn Amos, but here’s the 1st snack/single to stimulate the musical taste buds. I love the black-and-white approach here and I love the messy studio vibe. The album’s named: ‘Soul Brother No. 1’ and expectations are high. [VIDEO]
Robin Trower – ‘Joyful Sky’ (feat. Sari Schorr)
APPLE MUSIC
Robin Trower got together with Sari Shorr to make a blazing duet of an album. Robin’s unmistakeable guitar tone and virtuosity is matched by Sari’s smokey, sensual voice. If you’re a fan of either you’ll enjoy this record. This musical combination though … well, it soars. At 78, Robin’s still teaching a lot of youngsters how it’s done. [PREVIEW]
