Ole Lonesome – ‘Tejas Motel’

I know that when I first read this band’s name (Ole Lonesome) my immediate thought was, “they must be from Texas.” Well, I got that one right. And good news!  This album gets it right too.

A Debut Of Sorts

This 5-piece group has been gigging together for a while now but this is their debut album on Gulf Coast Records. Mike Zito (Mr. Gulf Coast himself) co-produced the project at Dockside Studio in Maurice, Louisiana. He even unpacked his guitar for a little collaboration on one of the tunes.

But this is Ole Lonesome’s record through and through. Every song is an original and every band member shares writing credits on each of them. Their talents combine to create a distinct sound that’s definitely Texas influenced and Blues-Rock to the core.

The Band

“Born in the oil swamps of Beaumont, TX, and raised on the blues, Ole Lonesome is a rock & roll band with its ear tuned to the past and boots to the future.”

Outro

The band claims the songs on this album were all inspired by the real Tejas Motel (which they happened to drive by one night after a gig). So the songs relate to each other – but not so much as to make this a concept album.

I have no reason to doubt that. But one thing’s for sure, every song on this album has its own thumpin’ heartbeat and Zachary Feemster’s expressive, sometimes haunting vocals do tie them all together.

I’m glad I stopped at the Tejas Motel.
